XIII. [Rocket-only video - Joint post with Agnus (
tickleironysjudgment)]
[Hello, and welcome back to Rotom Channel! Yup, that's still Rotom in the lower right corner of the screen. At least, this time, Gorthan has figured out a way to put this tendency of Rotom's to some use - you'll see how in a moment.
The laboratory is dark - quite frankly, Gorthan would not have it any other way. Atmosphere is important, and the Evronian scientist is, at heart, more of an aesthete than he usually gets credit for.
What seems to be the only source of light is meant to illuminate a very peculiar device, shown at the center of the video that is being broadcast. Decidedly circular, for it is made of rotating rings with a round core in the center, and, all in all, not unlike a gyroscope at all. In fact, that is exactly what it would look like at first glance - a somewhat fancier kind of gyroscope. Could it be that what Agnus and Gorthan have been working on is nothing but the kind of expensive, yet tacky ornament you would find in the house of someone pretentious, extravagant and with money to burn?
Of course, that's what it only looks like. It is, in fact, their first joint brainchild. To be fair, Agnus was responsible for most of the work, as Gorthan had been busy with the Rocket mutations, which included his own. Dist helped out, too, by the way!
In spite of the little light, Gorthan can be seen in the feed as well, pensively staring at something on his wrists - two bracelets that he has never been known to wear. After a moment, he raises his eyes, showing his companion a small smile. Judging by his words and by the way he seems to sometimes look into the Gear, he seems to be aware that they're being broadcast.]
The moment is solemn, Agnus. Is there anything you want to say, before we begin testing? I used to know someone here - testing was literally the reason she lived and breathed. While I doubt that you are exactly the same way, surely the trascendence of our work is not lost on you.
This project has come far indeed, and your mutation is quite fortunate. This prototype is the culmination of our efforts so far, the materials we have synthesized to produce the greatest reactions all molded into this opus. Artistic design and scientific prowess, married into these glorious devices. [Agnus' gleeful smirk does little to hide his enthusiasm for the current endeavor. He eagerly prepares his notepad for the data they will accumulate and record, a steady hand despite his excitement awaiting the first round of testing.]
To see my knowledge of alchemy, your knowledge of biology, and Ser Rose's knowledge of design and mechanics all married to produce such results is glorious indeed. Let us go forward, then, you may proceed when ready. We will start small. Observe the reaction to low-level abilities before we move upwards.
[[OOC: This is a joint post with Agnus! (
tickleironysjudgment). Obviously, turquoise is Gorthan, orange is Agnus. Much testing and experimenting - all public for Rockets to see, unless stated otherwise - will be in their thread together.
Edit - Also IMPORTANT: This is backdated to before everyone loses their powers.]]

[Agnus nearly leaped up from his chair in shock and joy, the results were beyond his wildest dreams. And even more, it was still climbing! He could hardly contain himself with such wonderful results already presenting themselves.]
This is magnificent! We must keep going, don't stop now- we absolutely must see how high you can bring the amplification ratio!
[With that said, Agnus began to chuckle. Yes, chuckle. At first it was under his breath, but it quickly grew to a full-out maniacal laugh that lasted for several moments.]
Glorious.
no subject
Gorthan did not have time to suggest all that at the moment, but, grunting between his gritted teeth, he would still make a comment way below the level of pleasantness that Agnus probably expected right now.]
This... is costing me some effort, you know.
[He kept the barrier up, determined to not let that energy remain within him. He really should not have been surprised that one of his friends here was now treating him like any other lab rat.]
no subject
[With that, however, he did attempt to adjust some dials on the gyroscope. The result was a slight decrease in the amount of power flowing between the amplifier and the bracelets. Enough, he hoped, to ease the burden without straining the results.]
Here, now, put the power to direct use. Start trying to produce fields and expend the power so we can gauge combat effectiveness. Start off with psybeam, we can work up to psychic and beyond.
[And then right back to the notepad to scribble values down and correct the range for consistency, then add notes that the power was reduced. Agnus' hand flew across the paper in manic scratches of data and calculations, observations and thoughts. He was in that state, indeed, the mad scientist at work. Cold and detached from his surroundings, concerned only with the work at hand, the experiment and its results. A man in his own little world.]
no subject
I... know that, Agnus.
[They would argue about this later. Now, bringing his arm in front of him, Gorthan channeled the energy into it and directed it at the training dummy they had prepared for that purpose. He had wanted to start with Confusion, but... the energy was simply too much, and so Psybeam may be ideal. The sequence of iridescent psychic waves rapidly flowing from the jewels on Gorthan's forehead nearly fried the poor target, leaving it burned in several places. With that much energy gone, Gorthan could, once again, take a small break to voice his thoughts.]
Psybeam is the most I can do, Agnus. Psychic isn't an option, and neither is anything beyond it.
[Or, it was an option in case Agnus had stopped caring about Gorthan completely and considered his health as something expendable. Which was probably the case, Gorthan thought.]
no subject
But, no, wait. He was forgetting something. Something very important. Strain, lines on his face, beads of sweat from effort, gritted teeth, signs of pain. Signs that Gorthan was in pain.
Gorthan was in pain. The thought snapped him back considerably quickly, and he flicked the switches of the machine to halt the flow momentarily. His mind was racing, conflicting trains of thought buzzing about in his head to the point that he could barely think.]
You need to take a break. Stop for a moment and collect yourself. I...
'Can't even formulate a thought right now because my mind is simultaneously calculating several functions, reviewing what I have just witnessed, re-planning the scope of the tests to the limitations of your abilities, hundreds of thoughts filling my mind to bursting but I can't push you too far and now I have to reassess dozens of values to accommodate limitations and-'
[Agnus took a long, shaking breath and held his hand to his head for a few moments. This was the cost of genius. The madness, the discord, the unstoppable racing of his thoughts. In a sense he was in just as much pain as Gorthan was right now. And perhaps, given the boost in power he was receiving, Gorthan would be able to sense it or even hear the dozens of screaming voices in Agnus' mind.
After all, the device amplified the general psychic powers of the affected. Not only the combat powers.]
no subject
I couldn't take a break before you gave me one, you see-
[He was about to say more, when the voices inside Agnus' head all made themselves known to Gorthan. This conflict, the many faces of the man and the professional... Gorthan couldn't possibly relate more. Leaning against chairs and desks to maintain his balance, he made his way to Agnus. Whatever the man was holding in his hands would be tossed carelessly aside by Gorthan himself, as the alien scientist forcibly takes the earthling's hands in his. An affectionate gesture. One of support. Let me give you strength. Let me give you peace.]
... Let's just work with Pokémon subjects from now on. Shall we?
no subject
The waters stilled. His mind went quiet. All he could do is stare at the hands holding his in an odd sense of shock and surprise.]
...Yes. Yes, we need to keep this to subjects who are able to use the powers naturally. This...we should have foreseen the feedback would be too much for a newly-crowned psychic to handle.
[No, no. He had to stop the tide before it began again. Agnus forcibly stilled his mind, stopping a wave of calculations from forming all over again. Breathe. He had to breathe and focus. The rush was still coursing through him. The high of being in 'the zone' as it were.]
Lets just...collect the data we have and start over. Take the bracelets off and I'll get Fortunado to continue from where we left off.
no subject
First, let's just breathe for a while. I have to do the same, so I'll keep you company.
[His hand lingered on Agnus' shoulder, rubbing it lightly as Gorthan listened intently to Agnus' mind, waiting for it to empty itself, jumbled thoughts disappearing with a final swirl like water down the drain.]
Fortunado is... your Gallade, if I recall correctly? It could take turns with mine.
[He added something in a much lower voice, nearly impossible to hear over the broadcast feed.]
I am fine, Agnus. I can take much worse than this. And you're a good friend.
no subject
[They did need a moment to rest, yes. Both of them. The hand on his shoulder helped, affirmed his reality, gave him an anchor to hold to while he weathered the rush. Breathe. In, out. In, out. Agnus slowly reached up to adjust his monocle and shift the hair from his line of sight.
Moments passed, and he regained composure. The adrenaline ran its course and he was calm enough to continue. But, first things first. In barely a whisper he spoke to Gorthan again.]
I worry that you may certainly be overestimating yourself now, my friend. I would not call myself a 'good' anything, much less a friend, but you are my colleague and my comrade. To do you harm is to shame us both.
[And with that, he shuffled over to fix the dummy and begin resetting all the machines and devices that were gauging the experiment. One at a time, swiftly and efficiently. He was done in only a few minutes, but waited yet for Gorthan's okay to continue with the procedures.]
When you are ready, we will begin from phase one again.
no subject
[The remark was audible - Gorthan assumed that that much was safe for the network to hear. Still, as Agnus prepared the machines again, he would be treated to a small telepathic message - Gorthan's first.]
[At any rate, while Agnus prepared everything for the next phase, by the time he turned to look at Gorthan again, Gorthan's Gallade was already out.]
I'm ready when you are. Ah, what a trite saying... in this case, however, there is nothing truer.
Joining in from the above thread. C:
Hello, gentlemen. I appreciate the invitation.
[He makes his way toward his colleagues and the machine. He also glances at that Gallade. Interesting to see one outside one of Agnus's drawings.]
Is this what you are testing on?
no subject
Ser Rose, good to see you. We were just about to begin! Gorthan, if you would please equip the Gallade with the bracelets? They should be able to auto-adjust to the arm size of the pokemon if you turn the dial around the main crystal facet.
[It really says something that the three of them were able to create such things as mere prototypes, actually. Form, function, and style all in a few little packages!
Once Agnus finished his recalibrations he shuffled over to the spectrometer again and quickly reset the device, then finally glanced up to the other two and grinned.]
Gentlemen, we're all set to begin the next round of testing. Everything has been set along the predicted projections and the transition should be seamless. So, then. How shall we do this? Ser Rose, would you like to join us in this? I believe you are familiar with the devices if you should like to have personal hand in the testing.
no subject
Greetings. Ah... a child prince, a sheep, and a Rose... our tiny planet is complete now.
[This analogy. It's not getting old, and you know it. He will let those words sit for a moment now as he walks over to the Gallade and puts the bracelets on them, removing the devices from himself in the process.]
Out of curiosity, Rose. Do you train any Psychic types yourself?
Remember that at some point, Agnus, we should establish whether our system works for the energy from physical Psychic-types attacks such as Psycho Cut. My personal theory is that it should be unable to differentiate, thus yielding the usual result.
no subject
Wonderful. I'm glad I haven't missed the main act.
[He stepped over to the table where the gyroscope-like device sat, running a hand alongside the dials. All the opportunities to perform experiments lately had done wonders for Dist's mood. They gave him a chance to get away from the brooding about opportunities lost back home. And the more he worked with these men, the more he realized having colleagues isn't so bad.]
Yes, I would love to join the process. We can each watch over one device for faster adjustments if they are needed. Unless you would prefer a different task.
[Next, he turned to Gorthan.] I do have two Psychic type Pokemon, a Solosis and a Metang. The Solosis is quite possibly the most aloof Pokemon I've come across yet, but he has proven to be useful.
no subject
[Agnus shifted over to the drawers near where he had gotten the last device and fetched a second, something between a Geiger counter and a metal detector. The second device was set opposite the first, pointed over to the test area, and calibrated to the wavelength they were looking for. Once this was done he carefully set the device in place and made way back to the desk.]
Gorthan, we're all set. Give us the go ahead when you have the bracelets equipped.
no subject
Our tastes in Pokémon seem to be quite similar, Rose. I, too, am the proud trainer of a Metang and a Duosion.
[He looks at Agnus then, sincerely impressed by the new device he had whipped out.]
Everything is ready, dear Agnus.
[He walks to stand at Agnus' side, joining his hands behind his back as he observes the Gallade.]
This shall be interesting. What will we start with this time?
no subject
[He then focuses his attention to his part of the machine, glancing over to find out what Agnus is going to select for a move to test.]
no subject
[Well, wasn't Agnus on top of his things today? The commendable little bee buzzed about eagerly as the second phase was to begin. He knew what was about to happen, and that lovely little rush from not so long ago was faintly coming back. Soon, the gyroscopic amplifier would start up again and they could test the input and output of the feedback loop.
Of course, when Agnus nonchalantly took out his own gear and- for the briefest instant- let an ice-cold grin tug at the tips of his lips, it might have become reasonable to assume something else was on his mind. Something devious to say the very least.]
Ser Rose, please keep an eye on the pokemon while we start the feedback loop up. A recent test shows the initial surge can be a little overwhelming. Worst case scenario could mean the whole lab ends up destroyed, so keep a finger on the killswitch.
no subject
I, your superior, get no pleases, Agnus?
[Even though he himself does not particularly care about hierarchy, as an Evronian, Gorthan is very sensitive to things like verbal courtesy.
Even so, he is not bitter or anything - in fact, he's quite relaxed. So much, in fact, that he'll treat Agnus and Dist to one of his rare theatrical, solemn gestures which he uses to accompany experiments he has high hopes for. He throws his arms in the air, hands spread wide above his head, as if he, and not the Pokémon, were the one about to use magic.]
Confusion!
no subject
[And on that note, he turns to watch Gorthan do...well, whatever the heck he's doing. Those dramatic gestures almost remind him of himself. Except no, because they just went through this argument and Dist wasn't sure if he liked comparing himself to Gorthan just yet.
Sidenote over, as the Gallades use Confusion, Dist flips the switch for the gyroscope device to receive the initial input. Energy is collected from the bracelets into the now rotating device, and eventually a balance is achieved. Next would be upping the output and sending it back to the Pokemon.
He patiently awaits to discover the current baseline. He doesn't really appear patient, though. He's absolutely mesmerized by seeing that device in action. The dramatic lighting really does add to the whole experience.]
