XIII. [Rocket-only video - Joint post with Agnus (tickleironysjudgment)]

[Hello, and welcome back to Rotom Channel! Yup, that's still Rotom in the lower right corner of the screen. At least, this time, Gorthan has figured out a way to put this tendency of Rotom's to some use - you'll see how in a moment.

The laboratory is dark - quite frankly, Gorthan would not have it any other way. Atmosphere is important, and the Evronian scientist is, at heart, more of an aesthete than he usually gets credit for.

What seems to be the only source of light is meant to illuminate a very peculiar device, shown at the center of the video that is being broadcast. Decidedly circular, for it is made of rotating rings with a round core in the center, and, all in all, not unlike a gyroscope at all. In fact, that is exactly what it would look like at first glance - a somewhat fancier kind of gyroscope. Could it be that what Agnus and Gorthan have been working on is nothing but the kind of expensive, yet tacky ornament you would find in the house of someone pretentious, extravagant and with money to burn?

Of course, that's what it only looks like. It is, in fact, their first joint brainchild. To be fair, Agnus was responsible for most of the work, as Gorthan had been busy with the Rocket mutations, which included his own. Dist helped out, too, by the way!

In spite of the little light, Gorthan can be seen in the feed as well, pensively staring at something on his wrists - two bracelets that he has never been known to wear. After a moment, he raises his eyes, showing his companion a small smile. Judging by his words and by the way he seems to sometimes look into the Gear, he seems to be aware that they're being broadcast.]

The moment is solemn, Agnus. Is there anything you want to say, before we begin testing? I used to know someone here - testing was literally the reason she lived and breathed. While I doubt that you are exactly the same way, surely the trascendence of our work is not lost on you.

This project has come far indeed, and your mutation is quite fortunate. This prototype is the culmination of our efforts so far, the materials we have synthesized to produce the greatest reactions all molded into this opus. Artistic design and scientific prowess, married into these glorious devices. [Agnus' gleeful smirk does little to hide his enthusiasm for the current endeavor. He eagerly prepares his notepad for the data they will accumulate and record, a steady hand despite his excitement awaiting the first round of testing.]

To see my knowledge of alchemy, your knowledge of biology, and Ser Rose's knowledge of design and mechanics all married to produce such results is glorious indeed. Let us go forward, then, you may proceed when ready. We will start small. Observe the reaction to low-level abilities before we move upwards.

[The more Gorthan worked with Agnus, the more he was reminded of someone he knew very well back in the Empire. Always a little overenthusiastic, always a little too ambitious... But, no. There were many things Agnus understood that Zoster never could, though, Gorthan had to admit, it was primarily just because of their species.

And then, of course, when around Agnus, Gorthan felt he was in the company who truly appreciated him as a colleague and superior, and also as a friend, as opposed to someone who hated his guts and couldn't wait to see his downfall.

Truly there are some things Agnus says that have the power to make Gorthan's smile, what he just said being a good example of that.]

"Married"? Really? The metaphors you will think of, my dear... but indeed, you, Dist and I live under a single roof. I doubt that we should make him privy to that image, however...

Also, "low-level abilities"? That is a little hurtful... I confess that I expected the mutagen to have a stronger effect on me. It is petty of me, I realize, but I have not quite gotten over that yet.

[Anyway, testing. Gorthan hasn't forgotten. Opening the palm of his hand, he raises one arm in the air, and his forehead jewels begin glowing a white light. The bracelet, into which the energy is channeled, responds by glowing in turn, though its light is an acidic green.]

Come now, my friend. A metaphor, a metaphor was all I meant.

[Of course he realized it was a joke, but the jovial mood left him willing to jest in turn. Still, the second part left him slightly hurt in turn. He had only meant to say they should begin at a low level, Gorthan using only what would be considered small-scale powers, then build up to a higher level.]

Gorthan, please be at ease. I had meant that we need to begin with lower levels of power. As in how the 'moves' are tiered, my good man. Starting from the bottom up.

[However, once the experiment had begun he immediately shifted over to a small spectroscopic machine on his table and switched it on to gauge the reaction level. The gyroscope began to slowly turn, increasing in rotation speed as energy was projected into it. The crystals within the gyroscope's core gave off the same sickly acidic glow in resonance with the host energy, and the rings in turn began to glow as though a neon light flashing and turning all at once.

It was beautiful. Effort had born fruit. Toil, sweat, and long hours were producing a most poetic sight.

A few moments passed, but Agnus waited to record the reactions yet.]

Very good, the reaction was nearly instant! Look, Gorthan! A perfect resonance of power and form, the device is producing exactly the same energy as you are. And, once I engage the mechanism it will send the power flowing back into you. Let me know when you are ready to receive it and we will continue. See if you can harness it to produce a psychic field.

[Satisfied, Gorthan observes the machine's reaction first, and Agnus' later.]

Most splendid indeed, Agnus. Out of curiosity - what do you think the maximum range of this prototype is?

[Gorthan slowly lowers his arm. At which he draws his other arm in front of his chest, his fist tightened. He also wears a bracelet there, one that hasn't lit up yet.]

An outbound beam and an incoming beam... The similarities with the technology of my home world need not be mentioned.

[He is very careful not to mention Evron outright, aware that this is being broadcast. Anyway, that said, he will be keeping his eyes on the bracelet receiver and waiting for the power to flow into it.]

I calculated that this device is capable of roughly between 75~95% amplification. It might be more, but I am certain at least of the minimum.

[Agnus shifts his head to glance down at the spectrometer and write down the current value.]

I've recorded the baseline for your output now, so I'll collect the increase once we begin. Right now the device appears to be in flux around an 80% range. I'm shifting the device, now, this might be a bit of a rush so please try to maintain focus.

[With that, Agnus flipped a switch on the surface of the device. At once, the rotations increased further as power flowed out into the other bracelet. For an instant, Agnus actually became quite afraid of how Gorthan would react to the sudden jolt of power and if he could control it. Worst come to worst they would just shut the device off, at least.]

Projecting the feedback now. Keep your calm and focus on projection, I have faith in you friend.

A prototype amplifier, Commander. This device is a very basic design I was able to put together with Gorthan and Dist the Rose. The projected estimates give that it should only reach about 75~95% amplification, but we are testing it out to ensure the mechanics behind it are sound.

Surely, Commander, you remember Malik's suggestion that we build an amplifier for the waves unleashed by Psychic-type Pokémon during their attacks.

So you're willing to broadcast this to our network, but you're not willing to tell us what it's supposed to do?

[Don't mind Archer, gentlemen. He's had an incredibly rough couple of weeks, if the dark circles under his eyes and even nastier disposition are anything to judge by. He's resting his cheek on his hand, looking rather bored.]

Go on. Show me what you're up to.

[He is your superior officer, after all~]

Come here, you malevolent specter.

[Agnus reaches out for the gear, currently floating about while possessed by the Rotom, but misses entirely as it darts out of his reach.]

Apologies, Colonel. The gear is currently being possessed by a Rotom. Electric and Ghost half-type pokemon, it can invade electronic devices and pilot them. It rather seems to enjoy filming Gorthan frequently. As for the device, it's a prototype for the psychic amplifiers I've been working on. The device, as you'll soon see, focuses and amplifies psychic power. The devices Gorthan is wearing are a transmitter and a receiver, respectively, that will project energy to the device and then receive the boosted power.

Do you not enjoy shows, Archer?

[... However, the scientist loses a lot of his usual smugness once he realizes that Archer doesn't seem to be doing particularly well. In fact, he seems very concerned and willing to help.]

Forgive me for prying, but, are you all right?

[Ah, yes, he's read about Rotoms. Archer hasn't encountered one, but they do sound quite fascinating. He really can't afford to deal with another mischievous creature, however.]

I see. Is this your first test of the device? How long have you been working on this?

[He leans forward, lacing his fingers together and resting his chin on top of them. This sounds fascinating. His own powers have begun to fade, but if this would provide a way to strengthen them...!]

[Gorthan's words catch him off-guard, and for a moment Archer looks a bit stunned. His expression of surprise is as dull as ever.]

I'm an impatient man, Gorthan.

[The second question seems to agitate Archer rather than calm him down, and his expression hardens immediately.]

That is none of your concern. I've been working, that's all.

[That is true to some extent. He's been overworking, but same thing, right? He has to find ways to keep himself busy, after all! It's not like he's furious with a certain platonic life partner subordinate! Oh no, not at all!!]

This device, yes. I had developed some similar devices previously, but after testing through them I was able to figure out how to synthesize the materials that produce a more powerful reaction than natural materials allowed. The current prototype here is the result of roughly three months of research.

[He grins confidently.]

And I am quite pleased to say it shows quite a bit of promise for even further improvement. Once testing of this device is complete I can design the actual mechanical devices. Those, I expect, will achieve the projected increase I have hoped for.

[Gorthan closes his eyes - sadly, he knows that hardened expression very well. He would use it with Zotnam a lot, himself, at one point. Accompanying words that were more or less exactly what Archer just said.]

I realize that I do not excel in inspiring trust in people. But if there is anything you need, and I mean on the humane level along with the professional, you can count on me.
